The need to mix recorded music with line-level signals can occur in a variety of situations. You might need to mix vocals and/or instrumentals from one mixer with recorded music, then send it all to one channel on a PA, broadcast or recording mixer. In another case, you might need to be addressing a sales group or an aerobics class through a wireless microphone while combining it with recorded music, all through powered speakers. In these and other cases, a very small, simple mixer like the PowerMIX II is often the best solution.
